4 Essential Steps for Growing Your Home-Based Business

As your home-based business begins to flourish, you might find it challenging to keep your work and personal life distinct. Emails and texts can get lost in the shuffle of personal accounts, and maintaining a balance between work and home can become increasingly difficult. When I consult with clients facing these growing pains, here are the first four steps I recommend:

  1. Get a Business Email Address

Establishing a dedicated business email address is crucial for balance and organization. While there are many free options available, I suggest investing in a professional domain for a small monthly fee. This not only enhances your credibility but also helps keep your work communications organized.

  1. Set Up a Business Phone Number

Having a separate phone number for your business is a game-changer. Depending on your budget, you can choose from free apps that provide phone numbers, subscribe to a service, or even get a separate phone/account for frequent business use. This ensures you never miss an important call and helps maintain a work-life balance.

  1. Create Social Media Pages and a Google Listing

If you haven’t already, set up social media pages and a Google listing for your business. Begin posting regularly to get your name and information out into the world. At this stage, you don’t need to hire a professional social media manager; the goal is to increase your online presence and reach potential customers.

  1. Register Your Business as an Entity

Protecting your personal assets is vital as your business grows. Consulting with a professional can help you choose the best entity for your situation, but starting with an LLC is often a smart move for small businesses because it offers liability protection and can be relatively easy and inexpensive to set up.

By taking these steps, you can better manage the growth of your home-based business and set yourself up for continued success. These foundational changes will help you stay organized, professional, and balanced as your business evolves.
